| Ariah Park Central School Ariah Park is a small rural community located in the Riverina. It is 100km from the provincial city Wagga, 130km from Griffith and 35 km away from Temora. It has a strong agricultural base with dryland farming. The main products are sheep and wheat. Ariah Park Central school was established well over 100 years ago and it enjoys strong community support with many of the students being second and third generation. Because this community values education our students tend to be reliable and hardworking.
Because it is a K-12 school the education tends to be more of a continuum and this allows teachers to ensure that the delivery of curriculum is appropriate for each students needs. Primary students are able to access secondary facilities and staff expertise not generally available to students attending conventional K-6 schools. Equally those students who need remediation in secondary benefit from the wealth of knowledge in the primary staff in the key areas of literacy and numeracy. There is an excellent blend of staff at the school- young staff bring to the school innovative ideas and provide excellent role models for our students. Experienced staff share with their younger colleagues sound teaching techniques, familiarity with syllabus requirements and preparation of students for standardized tests and formal external exams. Ariah Park school has a long history of success in debating, public speaking and chess. A wide range of sport is played and our students have competed at state level. In recent times Science has gained a strong profile with student project work enjoying national success. Technology based education is a key feature of the school at present. Students from K-12 have ready access to computers and there has been a strong emphasis on staff training in this area. With the support of the P and C state of the art equipment is continually being sourced and installed in the school. Stage 6 students at Ariah Park central school are part of the Riverina Access program and this has enabled our students to work with a larger cohort and access a huge range of stage 6 subjects. As a result of the outstanding technology provided by this program students are competent users of a range of electronic equipment. A key feature of students in the program is there ability to survive in post school education as they emerge from our school as independent learners.
Key student support groups within the school are the student support team and the welfare committee. The student support team identifies and supports those students who may need additional support particularly in literacy and numeracy and the effectiveness of this team is reflected in both statewide skills based testing. The welfare team is committed to supporting students who may experience a range of problems including social ones during their education. A tracking system is used to assist in identifying both individual and school wide issues. Ariah Park Central school provides an excellent educational opportunity for those parents that value a family like atmosphere, small class sizes and individualized attention.
